Pastor's note

Dear WCC,

I hope you are having a great week enjoying and obeying the Lord.

Really Pastor Dan, you hope I am obeying the Lord?!?  Can't I just live my life, try to do the best I can and call it good? Besides that, obeying the Lord takes the fun out of life!  I'm saved by grace, not works...right? John 15:10-11 seems to indicate that our joy is increased when we obey, "if you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love...that your joy may be full.” James also informs us there is blessing in "doing" what the Word says.

Yes, we are saved by grace, not by works, however, evidence of our salvation is a growing desire to obey. That "growing desire to obey'" is born from our identity.  In other words, when we understand who God is, how bad we are, what He gave up to rescue us and how much He loves and delights in us, we are motivated to obey.  Fear of punishment or fear of getting caught shouldn't motivate us to obey. The Apostle Paul said, "it is the love of Christ that compels me"...to obey.  It's in understanding Christ's love for us and our secure position as adopted sons and daughters that fuels our obedience. Amen!

This week we are going to take a look at the secret Kingdom of God. A Kingdom unlike any the world has ever known. A Kingdom that is present and the Kingdom that is still to come. We will examine the implications of this present Kingdom and the hope for the future Kingdom.

Hope to see you Sunday!
Pastor Dan
